Emma Di Marco - Process Habits
Format: Single
B-side: Birches
Release date: May 16, 2025
“Process Habits” was commissioned by Di Marco to be performed at the XIV World Saxophone Congress in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2023. The piece was part of a program for solo saxophone and track (also including “Chroma, Whisper, Raw” from the Shimmer album and a work titled “Silence/White Noise” composed by Di Marco) which explored the presence, or lack thereof, of noise within our daily lives and within our own minds.
Each composer took the prompt in their own direction and Watson has crafted a piece which takes specific noises from her daily life (the fan from her composition studio, sounds from coffee shops she frequents, even commentating from snooker competitions she would watch on tv) and put her unique compositional spin on it.
Watson’s music often draws upon a number of cross-genre influences and her background of studying at the RNCM and studying with notable saxophonists such as Andy Scott is evident in her writing. The track itself is funky and catchy with an effortless sense of cool that is inherent to the saxophone itself.
“Process Habits” by Jenni Watson is the first single from Emma Di Marco’s album Shimmer. The single is backed by B-Side “Birches”, composed by Christopher Healey, a beautifully reflective work inspired by the poem by Robert Frost of the same name.
