Emma Di Marco - Shimmer for Solo Saxophone
Format: Single
Release Date: April 11, 2025
The title track of the album, Shimmer, was composed for Di Marco to premiere at the XVII World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France and has since become her most popular and highly performed work. Green has described the piece as being representative of Di Marco’s personality as he seeks to highly personalise each of his commissions, writing for the specific performer and their uniqueness in order to give his works an intimately personal nature. Shimmer’s bright effervescence is represented in the fast technical passages throughout the work and the effortless way Green’s melodic line moves across the entire range of the instrument. The work briefly slows for more poignant and sentimental moments before finishing a flurry of notes at the extreme range of the saxophone. Shimmer went on to be the name and key piece of Di Marco’s second national tour in 2016 with performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, andCanberra.
