SignWaves - Aromatic Dance

Format: Single

Release date: September 27, 2023

SignWaves are a collective of flautists from The University of Queensland, embracing a diverse range of repertoire of varying ensemble strengths from solo flute to flute choir. Ahead of their forthcoming album, they share the advance single “Aromatic Dance”, an entrancing single-movement work by composer and flautist Monash Lal which explores the percussive nature of the flute.

“The melodies represent the flames licking the air, while the percussive attacks represent the rhythmic cracking and popping of heating wood on an open flame. Fire is everchanging and never still, such is the nature of the ostinato passages and crushed interruptions throughout the work.”

- Monash Lal

Aromatic Dance is the first single from the forthcoming SignWaves album, “New Works for Flute Ensemble”, out through Corella Recordings in early 2024.
